Ohio native and Hatter Senior Guard Ashley Dennis gives us the inside scoop on just how special this team is to her and the significance that Stetson has had on her future, not only in personal development, but also her love life…
Finals are over, campus looks like a ghost town, and Christmas carols are playing on the radio stations. It’s hard to believe that I only have one semester left here at Stetson University as my favorite time of the year is finally here. One of the reasons I love this season so much is because it is a time to share with our families, friends, and loved ones. It is a season full of tradition, joy, and giving. Most of my holiday break is spent with what some may see as an unorthodox family, but I am truly blessed to have thirteen sisters. It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come as a group, especially us seniors. We have risen above a below average season my freshman year to winning a conference championship, and are now working as hard as we can to bring another one home.
I am thrilled about our road win over FAU and so excited for our next two home games that will propel us into the beginning of conference. It’s time to go to work and we are more than willing and ready.
As my senior year continues, and as I think about the journey this far, I can honestly say that my experience has helped unearth my true identity. There is nothing that makes you look in the mirror more than being pushed to your limits each day, and being held accountable by a team. I know that at the end of it all I’ll be able to look in the mirror with a smile because despite all of our games, practices, championships, etc. at the end of the day we’ve made memories that will last a life time. In fact, I’ve made one of the greatest relationships I could possibly make while here in this little town of DeLand, FL. Here is where I met my best friend and my future husband, and the relationships like ours are what matter in the end. When those relationships are good everything else takes care of itself. Have a wonderful and safe holiday! Go Hats!!!
