Meet Sydni Payne!

Freshman guard Sydni Payne talks about her expectations of coming to Stetson and the adjustments she’s made throughout the first few weeks of college and preseason…

My experience here at Stetson thus far has been great. It was everything I expected and more. I really like the campus here and have already met some really nice people. What I like most here is that everyone is welcoming and always ready to help, which made my transition from high school to Stetson so much easier. Initially it was challenging trying to manage my time with school and ball as well as finding time to sleep and eat, but now I think I have adjusted well and have found time to do them all!

Academically, I have transitioned well with the school work. Of course because its college, the rigor is more demanding but for the most part everything is progressing as expected. My professors are great and are always ready to help and answer any of my questions. I really like the small class sizes and it makes the learning environment more personal and open

As for basketball, I am really enjoying practice and getting to know the team. Although it has only been a little over a month, I feel like I have already connected with the team as they have already taken me in and are helping me through the transition. They, in addition, have made it easier for me to adjust and to get acclimated with college life.

Preseason workouts have begun and are quite intense. The pace is much faster than high school, and the intensity and the demands are greater. Playing in college is at a new level of strength and endurance that I feel has already made me better. There is still a lot to learn playing at this level, but I’ve only scratched the surface of what lies ahead. I look forward to getting better every day and helping my team win a championship this year! I know we are all excited and anxious especially Amena, Cha Cha, and I who are the new kids on the block, but we have a great team with great coaches and a lot of talent. I look forward to the great things that will come of this year!
